(No one even seems to know where the name comes from, and &#8211; to add insult to injury &#8211; English speakers have deemed even the final &#8220;o&#8221; of &#8220;Milano&#8221; superfluous.)<\/p>\n<p>The lion has stationed himself outside this cathedral in Milano, considered the world&#8217;s fifth largest.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-955\" alt=\"970\" src=\"http:\/\/amalyaphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/970.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The thumb tells me that the guy in the purple gown and the white gloves must be American. European hitchhikers use a totally different signal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-969\" alt=\"1039p\" src=\"http:\/\/amalyaphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1039p.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The circular ceiling is the inside of a cupola, of course. These cats hang out at the Ruins of the Emperor&#8217;s Palace in Milan without giving it much of a thought. This was the only place in Italy that we saw homeless cats, actually.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-960\" alt=\"1099\" src=\"http:\/\/amalyaphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1099.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever seen pigeons unperturbed by the presence of multiple hungry felines just inches away? Remarkable. The lady in the blue checkered shirt has food and love to spare for her bewhiskered friends, and they return the same tenfold. Animals are like that.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-959\" alt=\"1105p\" src=\"http:\/\/amalyaphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1105p.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>THE MILANO HEIRESS<\/p>\n<p>Or so do we imagine her. Doesn&#8217;t she have that certain<br \/>\nunmistakeable aristocratic air about her? And a dog<br \/>\nwho responds to her accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-952\" alt=\"1139_1\" src=\"http:\/\/amalyaphoto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1139_1.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"545\" \/><\/p>\n<p>DOGS IN SIMPLON PARK<\/p>\n<p>What happens when two dogs go head to head &#8211; or nose to nose,<br \/>\nas the case may be? The beginning of a glorious canine<br \/>\nfriendship, perhaps? Time will tell. But for the right merchandise, a willing customer can always be found.
